Hungarian Railway Museum

The Hungarian Railway Museum, located in the Angyalföld district of Budapest, is one of the most fascinating attractions for enthusiasts of railway history and technology. Among these, the MAV 411 locomotive stands out, also known as “Gozdizel”, one of the first diesel-hydraulic locomotives built in Hungary. This machine represents a significant advancement in railway technology, marking the transition from steam to diesel locomotives.In addition to steam locomotives, the museum houses a variety of electric and diesel locomotives, as well as numerous passenger carriages and freight wagons. Each exhibit is accompanied by detailed explanations that illustrate its technical features, history, and use in the railway context. This attention to detail makes the visit not only interesting but also highly educational. Another fascinating aspect of the museum is the collection of miniature railway models. This section includes a wide range of detailed models representing different eras and technologies of railway history. An interesting anecdote concerns the famous MAV 424 locomotive, one of the most powerful steam locomotives ever built in Hungary. During World War II, many of these locomotives were used to transport troops and supplies.
