The A’DAM Lookout is an iconic attraction located at the top of the A’DAM Tower, a 22-story tower situated on the banks of the IJ River in Amsterdam Noord. This tower, previously known as the Toren Overhoeks and used as the headquarters of Royal Dutch Shell, has been transformed into a multifunctional hub thanks to an investment of 50 million euros. The renovation has turned the building into a creative and entertainment center that houses restaurants, bars, a boutique hotel, offices for companies in the music and creative sectors, and spaces for events and exhibitions.
The main attraction of the A’DAM Lookout is the observation deck that offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Amsterdam. From here, visitors can admire the city’s historic center, the bustling port, and the unique Dutch polder landscape. This breathtaking view is complemented by an interactive experience that includes three-dimensional models of Amsterdam and a series of exhibits illustrating the city’s history and culture. For the more adventurous, the A’DAM Lookout offers “Over The Edge,” the highest swing in Europe, which allows visitors to swing nearly 100 meters high, suspended over the edge of the tower. This attraction, which requires an additional ticket, offers a unique adrenaline-pumping experience, with a commanding view of the IJ River and the surrounding areas. In addition to the swing, the A’DAM Lookout also offers a virtual reality experience that allows visitors to explore Amsterdam in a completely new way, through a roller coaster simulator that provides a dynamic perspective of the city. The tower also hosts the panoramic restaurant Madam, located on the 20th floor, which serves as an indoor observation deck by day and transforms into Amsterdam’s highest nightclub by night. The tower also includes the Moon restaurant, a revolving restaurant that offers a 360-degree view of the city every hour, making every meal an unforgettable experience. The name “A’DAM” is a play on words that refers both to the diminutive of Amsterdam and the acronym for “Amsterdam Dance and Music,” reflecting the importance of music and culture in the city and its inhabitants. The tower’s owners are prominent figures in the music and events world, such as Sander Groet of club Air, Duncan Stutterheim of ID&T, and Hans Brouwer of MassiveMusic.Access to the tower is facilitated by a spectacular elevator that takes visitors to the top in just 22 seconds, accompanied by a light show that prepares them for the dizzying experience that awaits. Once at the top, visitors can choose between the covered panoramic deck or the open-air deck, both offering unparalleled views of the city. The surrounding area, Amsterdam Noord, has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years, evolving from an industrial area to a vibrant artistic neighborhood. This renewal is symbolized by the A’DAM Tower itself, representing change and innovation.
