Pazziana Gate (Anversa degli Abruzzi)

Anversa degli Abruzzi,
The door dates back to the mid-14th century and is the most important for entering the town. It opens towards the East, in the direction of Sulmona. The curtain wall that surrounded the town was composed of fortified houses, joined together, creating a defensive circle around the center. Among these houses stood guard towers, crenellated on the corners and the front, ready to watch over.
To the east of the door was a tower, now incorporated into a Renaissance building that protected the church of Santa Maria delle Fornaci. The staircase starting from the door led to the inner square, reaching the heart of the town.
The door, in its Renaissance appearance, features a simple and lowered round arch, built with shaped stone blocks. The left jamb is clearly visible, while the other has been incorporated into the surrounding houses. Every detail offers an opportunity to discover the history of this monument.
