The Modern Art Gallery Achille Forti, located in the Palazzo della Ragione in Verona, is an eminent example of how modern art can harmoniously coexist with the centuries-old history of a city. Founded thanks to the generous donation of Achille Forti, a Veronese collector and patron, the gallery represents a lasting tribute to his passion for art and his vision of a museum accessible to all. The Palazzo della Ragione, which houses the gallery, is a historically important building located in the heart of Verona between Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Signori. Built in the 12th century and subsequently modified in the medieval and Renaissance periods, the palace has been a focal point of the city’s political and administrative life. Its architecture, with the majestic Scala della Ragione and the Torre dei Lamberti, provides a unique historical and artistic context for the modern collections displayed within. The Galleria d’Arte Moderna Achille Forti exhibits works spanning from the mid-19th century to the early decades of the 20th century, including artistic movements such as realism, impressionism, symbolism, and historical avant-gardes. Among the represented artists are prominent names such as Felice Casorati, Gino Rossi, and Giorgio Morandi, whose works reflect the evolution of Italian art through periods of great social and cultural transformation. One of the main objectives of the gallery is to present an exhibition path that shows not only the beauty of the works, but also their historical and social context. This is evident in the recent exhibition “Enchantment and Vision: Towards Modernity,” which explores the process of artists emancipating themselves from academic conventions to embrace new artistic practices and languages. The exhibition includes works by the Macchiaioli, the Posillipo school, and symbolist artists such as Angelo Dall’Oca Bianca and Vincenzo De Stefani, offering visitors a fascinating journey through the fundamental stages of Italian modern art.
