The Casino Venier, a refined salon from the 18th century, represents one of the most fascinating examples of Venetian social and cultural life at that time. The architecture of the Casino Venier follows the typical pattern of Venetian palaces, but in miniature. The central hall is surrounded by smaller rooms, all decorated with stuccoes and original frescoes from the 1750s-1760s. One of the most intriguing features of the Casino Venier is the “liagò”, a small covered loggia in wrought iron decorated with the Venier family crest. From here, guests could observe without being seen, thanks to a secret opening camouflaged in the marble floor that allowed surveillance of the passage. Another curiosity is the musicians’ room, without windows, where the musicians were hidden from the guests and the music spread through perforated wooden panels, creating an intimate and mysterious atmosphere. In the 1980s, thanks to the intervention of the Comité Français pour la Sauvegarde de Venise and UNESCO, important restoration works were carried out to preserve the frescoes and consolidate the structure. Since 1987, the Casino Venier has been home to the headquarters of the Alliance Française in Venice, continuing its tradition as a place of culture and meeting. The Casino Venier was not only a place for social gatherings, but also a symbol of Venetian intellectual life in the 18th century.
