The Basilica of Sant’Agostino in Campo Marzio, located near Piazza Navona, is one of the most important Renaissance churches in Rome. Built in the 15th century according to the design of Giacomo di Pietrasanta, the basilica is dedicated to Saint Augustine and represents an important center of worship and devotion. The facade of the basilica, with its Doric columns and statues of saints, is a magnificent example of Renaissance architecture. The interior of the church is equally impressive, with a wide and bright central nave, flanked by richly decorated side chapels. Of particular interest is the Chapel of the Madonna del Parto, which houses a fresco of the Madonna and Child attributed to Jacopo Sansovino. This fresco, with its delicate beauty and realism, is an extraordinary example of Renaissance painting. An interesting anecdote concerns the tomb of Saint Monica, mother of Saint Augustine, located inside the basilica. The tomb is a place of great devotion, visited by pilgrims from all over the world.
