The Parco dell’Adige Sud, located in the heart of Verona, represents one of the most important green lungs of the city, extending over an area of about 200 hectares along the Adige river. The creation of the park, officially recognized as a protected area in 2005, is part of an ambitious urban development project called “Verona 2020”, aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens and promoting respect for the natural environment. The park is divided into two main sections, the northern and southern sections, connected by itineraries that follow the course of the river. The northern section, starting from the public area of Saval, includes areas of great historical and naturalistic interest such as Corte Saval and Corte Molon. The southern section, on the other hand, extends from Boschetto to Giarol Grande, including points of interest such as the island of Pestrino and the Lazzaretto Sammicheliano. This vast green area is crossed by pedestrian and cycle paths that allow visitors to explore the park in close contact with nature. One of the main objectives of the Parco dell’Adige Sud is the conservation of the natural environment and the river landscape. This is achieved through various reforestation projects aimed at recreating the original ecosystem of the Po Valley. For example, in 2005, over 15,000 trees were planted, including common oaks and field elms, in the Giarol Grande area. These interventions not only improve air and soil quality, but also create habitats for various species of migratory and resident birds. The park offers numerous leisure and outdoor activities. Guided tours by WWF naturalists are a great opportunity for families and nature enthusiasts to discover the local flora and fauna. Additionally, the park is equipped with picnic areas, playgrounds for children, and sports areas, making it an ideal place for relaxation and leisure.
