The Church of the Trinità dei Monti, located at the top of the famous Spanish Steps in Piazza di Spagna, is one of the most famous and iconic churches in Rome. Built in the 16th century by order of the King of France, Louis XII, the church is a magnificent example of Renaissance and Baroque architecture. The church’s facade, with its two twin bell towers, is one of the most well-known viewpoints in Rome, offering a spectacular view of the city. The interior of the church is richly decorated with frescoes, stuccoes, and precious marbles. Of particular interest is the painting of the Assumption of the Virgin, a work by Daniele da Volterra, located above the main altar. This painting is considered one of the masterpieces of Roman Renaissance and an extraordinary example of the artistic mastery of the time. An interesting anecdote concerns the famous cycle of frescoes in the Chapel of the Passion, also created by Daniele da Volterra, also known as the “Braghettone” for his intervention on Michelangelo’s Last Judgment frescoes in the Sistine Chapel.
