The Parc del Fòrum, located between the Sant Martí district in Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs, is a symbol of urban regeneration and the city’s ability to adapt. Inaugurated in 2004 to host the Universal Forum of Cultures, this vast complex is much more than just a park: it is a multifunctional space designed to host large-scale cultural, social, and sporting events.
The park was created with the aim of redeveloping the disused industrial area of Besòs, transforming it into an attractive hub for residents and tourists. The project, designed by architects Elías Torres and José Antonio Martínez Lapeña, has given life to an innovative space characterized by large open areas, iconic buildings, and advanced structures. Among these stands out the Fòrum Building, an imposing triangular blue building designed by Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, which now houses the Museu Blau, Barcelona’s museum of natural sciences. One of the most iconic elements of the Parc del Fòrum is the Plaça del Fòrum, a vast esplanade covering 84,000 square meters, making it one of the largest squares in the world. This versatile space is used to host fairs, concerts, festivals, and major events, including the renowned Primavera Sound music festival and the Fira de Abril. The square is dominated by a large photovoltaic structure, symbolizing Barcelona’s commitment to environmental sustainability. This solar panel produces enough energy to power around 140 households, demonstrating the city’s attention to ecological issues. The park also includes the Parc dels Auditoris, a series of outdoor auditoriums designed to host shows and concerts. These spaces offer a spectacular view of the sea and are perfect for events that require a large audience capacity. Another point of interest is the Zona de Banys, a two-hectare artificial beach designed to ensure the safety of swimmers, with ramps and stairs that facilitate access to the sea. This bathing area also offers sun loungers, umbrellas, and relaxation facilities, turning the park into an urban oasis during the summer months.
