House of the Knights of Rhodes

The House of the Knights of Rhodes, located near the Forum of Augustus, is a historically significant building dating back to the 12th century. This architectural complex, which was the headquarters of the Knights of Rhodes, represents a rare example of medieval architecture in Rome. The house was built on the remains of the Temple of Mars Ultor, and its history is closely linked to the chivalric orders that played a significant role in the Crusades and the defense of Christianity. The building has undergone numerous modifications and restorations over the centuries, but still retains many original elements, including a splendid loggia overlooking the Forum of Augustus. An interesting anecdote concerns the Grand Master of the Order of the Knights of Rhodes, Pierre d’Aubusson, who stayed in this house during his trip to Rome in the 15th century.
